I’ve never seen this before. It’s kind of nuts:

I have to give the guy props for actually pulling it off, even if it’s a bit lacking in the looks department.

Wasn’t there something similar to this that had 6 groups of three wheels?

Your thinking of the rig from this 70s mad max style movie called Damnation Alley.

Both this and that were in a Monster Garage book called “Monster Nation” that I got in middle school. Both were seriously cool rigs

I guess it was called the “Landmaster” and the wierd triple wheels were called “tri-star” and we’re developed by Lockheed for the Military. Cool stuff!

I remember the vehicle in the news, but I didn’t know he had taken the trip. Thanks for sharing!

That’s it. I knew I had seen something similar to the surface orbiter.

I can’t remeber why, but this was a big deal in my Elementary school in the 90's. Perhaps it passed through our town or something. If I recall he intended to go around the whole world but never quite made it.

The fact that he made it as far as he did is still impressive. It makes me wonder where it’s at now.

That thing is from my town! Yes he really built that in a one car garage. It was two blocks from my school so our science teacher had us walk over and see it. It’s made from an old milk tanker. which means it probably smelled awesome.

The attention to detail was rather impressive. Every single bolt head was smoothed and polished. I secretly believe it was not for aesthetics but to hide the fact that he didn’t used grade 10.8 fasteners.

If I remember correctly, during its maiden voyage he discovered that salt water is not good for 35" Mickey Thompsons and he got stranded in south america...

For real. There doesn’t even seem to be a Wikipedia page about it. Seems like something one of these eccentric billionaires would do today, but he did it on his own 25 years ago or so.

Sounds to me like a good idea for a book or short documentary...

The video you posted is from Monster Garage. One of the best parts of that show is when they’d show viewer submissions like this.

I guess having grown up without cable TV, I have never watched it.
